Intercultural Literature Studies: Academic Writing

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • identify and discuss different types of writing in the field of literary studies, such as academic papers, scholarly articles and dissertations
  • discuss components of the research process in literary studies, from basic research questions, critical review of previous research, and the choice of method and theory, to text and discourse analysis, and the structure of their own arguments
  • apply common rules and conventions for documentation, paraphrase, citation and bibliography, relevant for the field of intercultural literature studies
  • carry out an independent short literary research assignment on an intercultural literary theme, which is presented in an argumentative essay
  • analyse and discuss the academic writing of others by pointing out strengths as well as weaknesses in the form of a constructive response.

  • Bachelor Degree of 180 credits in the field of Humanities, Social Sciences or Education and English 6. No knowledge of Swedish is required.

Surf on the Internet, read and send emails, use a word-processing programme (e.g. Word). Plug in peripherals to your computer, install programmes and adapt installations for your computer.

Means of Education:

Higher rate of web-based communication where our learning platform (Learn/Canvas) is a natural element of the course. Web-based meetings with sound and image where simple presentations can be held. Lectures can be broadcast live or can alternatively be made available afterwards online.
