Learning outcomes for the course
On completion of the course the student should be able to:
- use the Arabic grammar rules on a basic level correctly in speech and writing
- converse in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) on well-known or prepared topics
- discuss shorter literary texts, poems and news articles in MSA
- make simple but correct translations to and from Arabic
- make simple grammatical analyses in Arabic
- compose short texts in correct MSA
- distinguish certain differences and similarities between the Syrian and Egyptian dialect in comparison with MSA
- use Arabic dictionaries and encyclopedias and briefly describe how they have developed.
