Master‘s Degree Thesis in Religious Studies

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • show in-depth knowledge of a defined religious science research area, comprehensive research history of the area, central research problems and current research needs
  • independently and critically systematise problematise and reflect on previous research results based on both theoretical and religious perspectives
  • based on previous research, formulate a relevant religious science problem with associated research questions
  • identify, reflect on and prevent research ethical problems in one‘s own study
  • based on a specific purpose and adequate questions, search for and make a selection, critically evaluate and collect relevant source material
  • analyse the source material in an independent and systematic study with relevant theory and method use that rests on a scientific basis
  • discuss their own research results in relation to results in previous research
  • with high demands on written communication skills present their own scientific study in essay form, in accordance with established academic writing standards
  • formulate and orally deliver constructive criticism on an essay written by a fellow student
  • scientifically evaluate and process one‘s own text based on the criticism put forward by the opponent and seminar leader
  • contribute to knowledge development within a limited field of religious studies.

  • Degree of Bachelor 180 credits in the main field of study Religious Studies 90 credits and 15 credits in Religious Studies at second cycle, including Science History, Theory and Method in Religious Studies 7.5 credits

Computer Skills:

Surf on the Internet, read and send emails, use a word-processing programme (e.g. Word). Connect a camera and headphones to the computer and install a programme using instructions.

Computer Capacity:

Access to a computer (Not a mini pc, tablet or similar) that is not older than three years (or equivalent) and broadband connection, at least 1 Mbit/s (not mobile broadband, because mobile broadband can vary considerably in speed).

Means of Education:

Higher rate of web-based communication where our learning platform (Learn/Canvas) is a natural element of the course. Web-based meetings with sound and image where simple presentations can be held. Lectures can be broadcast live or can alternatively be made available afterwards online.
