Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- show in-depth knowledge of a defined religious science research area, comprehensive research history of the area, central research problems and current research needs
- independently and critically systematise problematise and reflect on previous research results based on both theoretical and religious perspectives
- based on previous research, formulate both a relevant question from the field of religious studies as well as research questions relating to this
- identify, reflect on and prevent issues relating to research ethics in their study
- with a specific purpose and adequate questions, search for, select, critically evaluate and collect relevant source material
- analyse their selection of source material in an independent and systematic study while using relevant theory and method that have a scientific basis
- discuss their research results in relation to the results of previous research
- formulate and orally present constructive criticism on an essay written by another student
- in a scientific manner, provide argument for and evaluate their work in light of the comments they receive from the peer reviewer and seminar leader
- contribute to knowledge development within a defined area of religious studies.
Course Content
Under supervision, students carry out an expert and independent scientific study that has its starting point in a formulated question from the field of religious studies. This develops students´ability to contribute to knowledge development within a defined area in the field. Students present their respective study and its results in the form of a thesis. Included in this are a review and evaluation of their own scientific work and that of others, as well as the formulation, presentation and management of constructive criticism in connection with both the work process and the public discussion of their thesis and the theses of other students.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Master’s Degree Thesis in Religious Studies - 15 Credits | U–VG
Prerequisites
- Degree of Bachelor 180 credits in the main field of study Religious Studies 90 credits and 15 credits in Religious Studies at second cycle, including Science History, Theory and Method in Religious Studies 7.5 credits

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
