Regional and Economic Planning

The course deals with how basic economic geographical processes shape the location of socially important structures and activities. The course also deals with regional planning in Sweden, its aims, motives, development, forms and significance from a community-building perspective. Different types of planning situations, knowledge bases and laws that govern regional planning work are addressed.
  In the project part of the course, the methods used to create a decision basis for planning and locating different activities are applied. GIS is applied as a tool for compilation and analysis of various conditions as a way to develop the planning basis. As well, methodology is introduced to handle the content and processes of regional planning that are applied in the project part of the course.
