Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- Describe basic concepts and theories from both economic geography and regional planning, and be able to relate these to societal changes.
- Describe the content, processes and regulations of Swedish regional planning, and their significance from a community-building perspective.
- Critically reflect on different planning situations and existing interests, positions and discourses in regional and economic planning.
- Obtain, compile, analyse and present relevant information for economic and regional planning in writing using GIS and images.
- Apply knowledge of regional and economic planning in practical planning work using methodology and planning tools.
Course Content
The course deals with how basic economic geographical processes shape the location of socially important structures and activities. The course also deals with regional planning in Sweden, its aims, motives, development, forms and significance from a community-building perspective. Different types of planning situations, knowledge bases and laws that govern regional planning work are addressed.
In the project part of the course, the methods used to create a decision basis for planning and locating different activities are applied. GIS is applied as a tool for compilation and analysis of various conditions as a way to develop the planning basis. As well, methodology is introduced to handle the content and processes of regional planning that are applied in the project part of the course.

Examination 3

Grades
The Swedish grades U, 3, 4, 5.
As a weighted grading scale, U, 3,4, 5 are used with the following distribution on course components:U, 3, 4, 5 for exams and seminars with written submissions. U, G, VG for the project assignment.
The final grade for the course is set after an overall assessment by the examiner.

- 60 credits in the Construction and Urban Planning Programme
