Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • demonstrate basic knowledge of clause types in Russian
  • describe characteristic differences between different clause parts of the sentence and describe their functions in Russian
  • apply relevant syntactic constructions in the translation of chosen texts into Russian and use Russian conjunctions in a correct way
  • demonstrate basic knowledge of the stylistic characteristics of Russian through the translation of chosen texts into Russian
  • write their own texts in Russian with different stylistic characteristics.

Course Content

During the course, students develop their ability to carry out syntactic analyses of chosen Russian texts from a theoretical perspective. In practical exercises (translations and students’ own texts), students apply their knowledge of Russian syntax and punctuation rules. Students also deepen their knowledge of Russian word order and stylistic characteristics. The course gives insights into historical syntax and the development of different Russian styles.

Assessment

Examination takes the form of oral presentations at seminars, written assignments and a final written examination.

Forms of Study

Swedish and/or English are used as languages of tuition. Teaching takes the form of obligatory seminars.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, VG is required on both modules.

Module 1: Grammar - 5 cr
Module 2: Written language proficiency - 5 cr

Prerequisites

  • 90 credits in Russian, including the course Russian III: Grammar and Written Language Proficiency, 10 credits on First cycle. No knowledge of Swedish is required
