Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

 

  • explain basic concepts linked to the tourism and hospitality industry
  • describe the development of the Royal Djurgården as a place and the development of its tourism and hospitality industry
  • account for the economy of the tourism and hospitality industry in Royal Djurgården and relate this to other relevant contexts such as other places and industries
  • describe the geography of the tourism and hospitality industry in the Royal Djurgården
  • reflect on the tourism and hospitality industry’s various types of effects in relation to the concept of sustainable tourism.

Course Content

In the course, the Royal Djurgården is studied as a place and tourist destination from an economic and geographical perspective. During the course, the tourism and hospitality industry is described and discussed as a phenomenon based on the tourist’s activities: living, traveling, eating, doing, as well as the concept of sustainable tourism. Furthermore, a historical review and current picture of the tourism and hospitality industry in the Royal Djurgården is given, where the various players in the hospitality industry are presented and discussed.

  • Written submission task

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–G.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Reflection on Royal Djurgården and visitors and tourism industry - 3.0 Credits | U–G
  • Tourism and place concepts at Kungliga Djurgården - 2.0 Credits | U–G

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
