Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students shall be able to:
- describe the basic features of the Italian language and its grammar
- apply basic elements of Italian grammar
- use grammar and bilingual dictionaries to read and write in Italian
- communicate, orally and in writing, in everyday Italian by using a basic vocabulary consisting of the most frequent words in Italian
- describe the main features of Italian history, geography and social conditions, and compare them with those of other countries
- summarise and discuss, orally and in writing, Italian cultural and societal aspects based on materials studied in the course
- identify their own need for additional knowledge and skills in the subject.

Course Content
The course includes in-depth training in pronunciation, listening comprehension, oral interaction and grammatical structures from several perspectives such as diachronic, diatopical, diaphasic and contrastive. The course also includes the reading of texts with a cultural and societal content, as well as an easy novel. Practical speaking and reading and easy writing and translation exercises are included. Students are also introduced to different language learning theories to promote reflection on their own learning process.
Modules
This sub-course contains a basic review of Italian grammar with application and simple writing exercises, different listening and pronunciation exercises, as well as work with vocabulary and communication training, also in connection with the reading of texts. The sub-course also includes an introduction to text studies that involve the reading of simple texts about Italian culture and social life.
The sub-course contains a continued systematic review of Italian grammar with exercises in application and writing; exercises in understanding idiomatic spoken Italian; practice in pronunciation and communication; and work with vocabulary. It also provides continuation in terms of Italian culture and social life through the reading of an easy novel and varied simple factual texts.

The Swedish grades U–VG.
To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, students must achieve VG on at least 12 credits.

- Italian: Beginners Course I, 15 credits, First Cycle or general entry requirements plus Italian step 2. No knowledge of Swedish is required
Other Information
The course is a continuation of Italian: Beginners Course I, 15 credits, and requires intense studies. Teaching is web-based through the use of a learning platform and digital tools. Students require a computer with sound card and network connection, headset with microphone and headphones, as well as a webcam.
Replaces IT1018.
This course cannot be part of the main field of study Italian in a degree.
