About SERC

Fostering over 40 years of energy research, Dalarna University has established a new interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to energy. SERC aims to promote interdisciplinary research in the field of energy and support industry and public stakeholders to achieve a sustainable and inclusive energy transition.  

The centre incorporates research from various research fields, including Energy and Built Environment, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Economy, and Social Sciences. 

The acronym for the new research centre, SERC, was chosen as a tribute to the legacy of the Solar Energy Research Centre, our original research centre dedicated to solar energy, which was established in 1984. 

Research Units

Energy and Built Environment
Research that creates solutions for cities, industries, and transport by integrating flexible energy systems and circular economy principles.
Industrial Engineering
Our research focuses on sustainable production and materials, product development, logistics business models and entrepreneurship.
Data Science
Research mainly involves the study of complex processes in business and industry, and in social constructions – in particular areas of research that are relevant for the region as well as non-urban areas along with transport, infrastructure and retail.
Business and Economic Dynamics
Our research group contribute with knowledge about the importance of entrepreneurship, good leadership and institutional conditions for sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Cooperation

SOLVE - Solar Electricity Research Centre, Sweden
SOLVE is a consortium of universities and public/private partners conducting collaborative research to rapidly expand solar energy in Sweden's electric grid. (External website)
